French Classes for Adults

Since January 2025, Emmanuelle Parker has been teaching 6 classes and levels on Monday's and Tuesday's.

I hold a Masters’ degree in English and American History and Literature. After spending my early years studying in France near Orléans, I moved to the UK in 1999 and spent several years teaching in schools in the North West. I then transitioned to work with football clubs in the region as a translator and interpreter, later expanding my skills to include voice-over work, collaborating with various sports organisations. In May 2023, I returned to France with my family to continue my career in translation and voice-over.

The lessons will restart from Monday 8th September for adults who would like to learn or improve their French through The Old School in St Colomb de Lauzun 47410.

A few places are available at most levels from Beginner through to B2.

Our classes are small, maximum 8 participants, with the focus on individual development and growing confidence with this beautiful language.

The classes are taught by Ruth Brannam, who is a fully qualified French Language teacher. Ruth is a fluent French speaker and has been teaching adults at The Old School in St Colomb de Lauzun since September 2017. She has been teaching six classes of interested adult learners each week and the feedback from all learners has been fantastic; all are progressing well, with increased confidence and desire to put their improved skills into practice.

A few words from Ruth: "I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to all adults who would like to learn French - beginners, intermediates and advanced. Since my first French class at the age of nine, I have always loved languages. I studied for my degree at Oxford University in French and German, and later I learned Russian while working for the British government. I have been a teacher of modern languages (French, German and Russian) for almost twenty years. Before moving to France, I worked in two English schools: in the first I taught young people between 14-18 years, and in the second young people between 10-13 years old. I also give private lessons to individuals, both adults and children, which I thoroughly enjoy".



Classes are currently being taught via a weekly email package of activities covering the skills of Listening, Reading and Writing. Students are invited to send their work to Ruth for feedback but may otherwise work at their own pace.

Fees are €9 per class, with the additional annual admin fee of €25 per family.
There is a maximum of 8 students per class, which ensures that the quality of teaching and learning remains high and personal to the individual.

Shelly & I have absolutely loved your French lessons. Particularly the 'out in the field' practicals. We have both grown more confident in speaking, listening and writing the French language. What has been particularly nice is that our French native friends have commented on how much our speaking and understanding is and that is 100% down to you. We have really missed your lessons over the summer and can't wait to pick up again in September.

You always go the extra mile Emmanuelle in that not only do you deliver interesting and practical lessons but the little nuances you share have helped us in everyday interactions both socially and practically (abadidonc)! The help you extend to people in your own time at the end of the lesson navigating French correspondence and systems is above and beyond and really appreciated.
