Music at the Old School

The Old School has a thriving music and performing arts department, headed by experienced performer and music educator Paola Bottomley.

The school regularly holds performances showcasing talent in the local community and encourages all students to participate in performance related activities.

Paola has a broad base of experience and works in a variety of situations as a performer and educator. Her initial training was at Trinity and Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance in London, where she graduated with First Class Hons, specializing in Voice and Jazz Music.  In 2007 Paola was awarded a Yamaha Jazz Award for outstanding young Jazz musicians. She has since gone on to receive several awards including a prize for best improvisation and gained 2nd place in Lithuania at the International Jazz Vocalist Competition held in Klaipeda.  She has been described as a ‘truly gifted improviser’ (Pete Churchill). She then went on to complete her Masters Degree winning the Elton John Scholarship Award at The Royal Academy of Music in London, graduating with Distinction.

Paola is an experienced teacher and vocal coach, currently working with a number of institutions in France and the UK. Recently she recorded a set of educational videos for the Trinity Rock and Pop Grade syllabus.  She currently holds the position of Professor for Jazz and Pop voice at the Conservatoire of Bordeaux and is also Head of Music and Performing Arts at The Old School in Lauzun.  She is also the vocal coach for the Dordogne Jazz International Summer School where she teaches alongside many respected UK Jazz tutors.

Performing Arts for Kids

Weds 4.30 – 6pm (age 6 - 11)

Paola co–runs this weekly class with experienced actress and screenwriter Heather Pipps, teaching improvisation, singing, acting and confidence in performance.


Paola teaches a weekly music class at The Old School where the students study music theory, notation and performance skills. Exam boards taught include Edexcel, ABRSM and Rockschool grades.

One to One and Group Lessons

Wed 7.30pm to 9, Flock and Tea, Lauzun

Paola leads a weekly singing session filled with fun, energetic contemporary material. Always open to new suggestions from the choir, you will be introduced to a variety of contemporary styles ranging from pop, soul, mo-town, reggae, african world music, brazilian sambas, musicals, christmas carols.... the possibilities are endless! No previous experience is necessary. There are no auditions. You don’t have to be able to read music. Just turn up, ready to sing and we’ll do the rest!

Glee Club

The Glee Club is open to singers (beginners or advanced) who wish to learn to sing in harmony, learn performance skills and choreography, perform with professionals and work together with others in the spirit of Glee
Price 120 € per term

You will profit from two very experienced teachers who are also professional singers / musicians. They have performed in a wide variety of genres from classical, musical theatre to swing, jazz and pop, both here and abroad, including London and USA
